(Web Desk) – The instant messaging app WhatsApp announced recently that it is updating a new feature which will allow its over a billion users to share their live location.
According to the statement shared on WhatsApp blog, the company unveiled “(to roll) out a new feature that allows you to share your location in real-time with family or friends”. It will not only be end-to-end encrypted but also let consumers control the live location privacy. “You can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location timer simply expire,” the release said.
One can share his/her location for various time periods like 15 minutes, 60 minutes, or 8 hours. Users will be empowered to disable the option whenever they desire.
Share Live Location feature can be used by the following method:
1. Open a chat with the person or group you want to share with.
2. Under “Location” in the attach button, there s a new option to “Share Live Location.”
3. Choose for how long you want to share and tap send.
This will allow each person in the chat to see the real-time location on a map. All those locations will be visible on the same map if the people in contact list have shared their Live Location in a group.
Responding to when the real-time location update will finally roll out, WhatsApp said it is due in the coming weeks. The Share Live Location feature can be accessed by smartphone users of both Android and iPhone OS.
Location setting are already available on WhatsApp, however, live location feature is new. Facebook Messenger and iMessage also allow location enabling. It will allow people to keep in touch with their friends and family when meeting somewhere or finding someone.
